Hi Derek -
I am sorry this took so long to write - I came across the nice note you sent to me after Ed and I returned from Hawaii. We had a great time! Thank you so much for making all the arrangements. It isn't in the news anymore, but the volcano on the Big Island started erupting the day after we got back. It would not have affected us where we were staying, but still.
I really like the Mauna Kea hotel (Marriott property). It was lovely, very 'old world' kind of refinement, though not dated. It was low key. A pretty small pool, which suited us just fine. The upshot of that is that it doesn't attract a lot of families with kids who want to scream and yell and go down water slides. So perfect for middle-aged people like us. The breakfast buffet was amazing, and resulted in some weight gain.
I don't remember the exact class of room we had, but it was very deluxe. Very spacious, with a walk in closet, and a HUGE bathroom that was beautiful. We also had a nice lanai, and we slept every night with the screen door open listening to the waves.
I would definitely stay there again. So thank you again, it was a terrific vacation, the car worked out fine, everything was very well done. I appreciate your help, I'll be in touch for other vacations I am sure!!
Sincerely,
Suzanne W.
